Bicycle/Pedestrian Path Detour
Closure of Bicycle/Pedestrian Path Along Hwy 101 Corridor in Petaluma
Detour established between Lynch Creek Trail and Southpoint Boulevard
As part of the Marin-Sonoma Narrows project, Caltrans will close the bicycle/pedestrian path at the between the Lynch Creek Trail and Southpoint Boulevard. The path passes below the Petaluma Overcrossing on Highway 101, a bridge that will be demolished and rebuilt as part of the Marin-Sonoma Narrows project.

The closure will allow Caltrans to safely demolish and rebuild the overcrossing, which passes over the SMART railroad tracks. The new overcrossing will be wider, six lanes instead of four, the difference being the addition of two new carpool lanes - one in each direction - to increase ridership through the corridor.
The closure is scheduled between February 2020 and February 2022, the time it will take to replace the overcrossing.
The detour for the bike/ped path will be familiar to many cyclists and pedestrians, as it was a bike/ped path before the opening of the existing path eight months ago.
