Flood Reduction: Phase 1 - Novato Creek Bridge Replacement

Map showing the project area for the Flood Control Project on State Route 37 in Marin County; California.

Project Overview

The State Route 37 (SR-37) corridor occurs along the northern shore of the San Pablo Bay. Highway flooding from stormwater overtopping occurs during winter rain and high-tide events, causing delays and highway closures. The roadway within the project limits on US-101 to Atherton Avenue is low-lying.

This project will replace the Novato Creek Bridge and address flooding and sea-level rise of projected 2130 elevation.

Phase 1 of this project involves constructing a new 26-foot-high bridge that can accommodate projected sea-level rise.

The project reached 100 percent design in the summer of 2026 and is scheduled to begin construction in the spring of 2027.

Schedule
