Caltrans will perform general pavement repair on various sections of State Route-29 (SR-29) also known as Sonoma Boulevard through six miles of Vallejo. The repairs will require a pavement repair process referred to as dig-outs which includes the removal and reinstallation of new surface pavement at isolated locations. During roadway repairs, crews will also seal the roadway surface to protect it and extend its service life during inclement weather and constant wear and tear.
Work DescriptionThis is general pavement repair work on sections of SR-29 that are worn and need attention. A future project will address larger paving issues in tentatively 2023.
Temporary Lane Reductions and Lane Closures on SR-29The construction will require various lanes closures on SR-29, installation of construction signs, tow-away parking signs along SR-29 in Vallejo’s business districts and possible temporary closures of various sections of SR-29 and streets intersecting with SR-29. While work is scheduled to take place around the clock including weekends, one lane on SR-29 will remain open at all times. Additionally, the eastbound I-80 to northbound SR-29 connector and the southbound SR-29 to westbound I-80 connector may also be closed during construction and a detour will be posted.Once construction starts, motorists should expect delays for 2 ½ months if traveling on SR-29/Sonoma Blvd. Any closures will be very temporary and occur during non-commute hours.
Driver BenefitsOnce completed, the project will provide motorists a smoother, gentler ride on SR-29 through Vallejo’s main business districts and residential neighborhoods through South Vallejo, Downtown and North Vallejo. The main aim of the project is to maintain the roadway pavement and extend the roadway pavement’s service life.
Project LimitsWork will be performed on northbound and southbound SR-29 also known as Sonoma Blvd on six miles of SR-29 through the heart of Vallejo, CA. Project limits are on SR-29 from Sequoia Avenue in South Vallejo, through Downtown Vallejo, through Vallejo’s business districts along SR-29 past the SR-29/SR-37 interchange in North Vallejo continuing on SR-29 ending at the Napa County Line.
Work could start as early as mid-late August 2020 and could be completed as early as October 2020.
