Project Description

In April 2019 The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin construction of the US 101. Ramp Metering project in Marin County in Cities of Sausalito, Mill Valley, Corte Madera and Larkspur. This project will install Ramp Metering Equipment and Traffic Operations System (TOS) at various locations, widen northbound (NB} US 101 on-ramps to accommodate High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV} bypass lanes, increase storage capacity and provide maintenance vehicle pullouts. When completed,this project will reduce traffic congestion and delays, improve safety and operation and provide more efficient movement of commuter traffic on NB US 101.

The proposed work includes installation of Ramp Metering equipment and TOS elements at ten locations, on NB US 101 from Golden Gate Bridge to Sir Francis Drake Blvd, including the widening of US 101 on-ramps at Tiburon Blvd.off-ramp and loop on-ramp, Tiburon Blvd. westbound and Diagonal on-ramp and Sir Francis Drake Blvd on-ramp. TOS elements will include off-ramp traffic detection loops,repair of existing Changeable Message Signs (CMS), and installation of a new CMS.The project will also widen eastbound Tiburon Blvd (Route 131) from North Knoll Road to NB US 101on-ramp at Tiburon Blvd.

What to Expect

Motorists will encounter intermittent lane/ramp closures,temporary detours,and increased heavy construction equipment. Ramp closures willprimarily occur at night to reduce traffic Impacts. Advanced notification regarding exact time of the lane/ramp closures and detours will be provided as they become available. All work is weather permitting.
