District 4 Office of Sustainability

About the Office of Sustainability
The Office of Sustainability oversees the development and implementation of the District Action Plan for Sustainability that includes a framework to integrate sustainable practices in the District and to ensure sustainability is considered and incorporated into projects, administration, planning, operations, maintenance and construction. The Office is also responsible for educating employees on sustainability activities and initiatives, including providing guidance and information to staff to affect change in business practice and culture to achieve the District’s sustainability goals across all functions.

The Office conducts policy research to develop recommendations on implementing policy and program interventions that advance climate action and sustainability. This includes identifying funding opportunities and assisting other Divisions in applying for alternative sources of funding for sustainability initiatives. Initiatives that focus on Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) reduction, greenhouse gas mitigation, climate adaptation and resilience, and performance measures related to sustainability outcomes are monitored.
