City of San Pablo's Old Town Pocket Park & Illegal Dumping Outreach

Project Overview

The City of San Pablo's Old Town Beautification Project includes two major
elements: the transformation of a vacant lot into a neighborhood park
and an outreach campaign to inform and inspire residents to beautify their
community.

The City of San Pablo is the most under-parked city in Contra Costa County
and is predominately low income. This project will educate the community
about free disposal options to ensure that poverty is not a barrier to
reducing and removing trash on the streets of San Pablo.

This project will serve the community by transforming a vacant lot into a
pocket park with swings, exercise loops, fitness machines, shade structures,
and native plants. Accessible parks and educational programs are in
need to provide healthy spaces for residents to live, work and play.

Enhancements at this location include:

  • Adding a tree ring bike loop, play mounts, shade sails, spring based Playground Pollinators
  • Adding swings, a fitness zone, planting, seating, fencing, water fountains, bicycle racks, trash cans and park hours/rules signs
  • Outreach programs to encourage residents to volunteer and perform neighborhood cleanup events
  • Bilingual media elements which includes posters, banners, postcards, flyers, social media, installing mobile cameras
