City of Oakland's Mini Parks Beautification
Project Overview
The Oakland Mini Parks Beautification Project will beautify nine mini parks in Oakland's underserved communities. The mini parks are currently marred with graffiti, damaged by vandalism, overrun with weeds, illegal dumping and suffers from broken play equipment and absent features, such seating and drinking fountains. The poor conditions of these lowest ranked city parks fostered illegal activity and caused the community to avoid these areas.
This project will serve the community by providing an inviting recreational area by promoting a healthier social gathering space with proper litter disposal, new landscaping including shade trees and new play structures.
Enhancements at the mini parks include:
- Installation of BBQ pits, play structures and new park furniture
- Installation of nine drinking fountains
- Resurfacing of play areas
- Planting of 42 shade trees to reduce the urban heat island effect
- Landscaping with new irrigation
- Adding 14 animal-proof trash receptacles, new lighting, fencing and gates
- Adding exercise equipment, if space permits
