City of Oakland Courtland Creek Restoration

Project Overview

The Courtland Creek Restoration Project in Courtland Creek Park will restore 140,000 square feet of public parkland including 950 linear feet of urban stream and 1500 linear feet of recreational trail.  The Project will stabilize creek banks to protect properties, improve riparian habitat through native drought-tolerant plantings, abate litter and illegal dumping, and beautify the Park to benefit an underserved community.

This project will benefit the underserved community by improving the creek's ecosystem, providing accessible seating, gathering places, a creek overlook, and interpretive art to enhance community connection and increase nature-based recreation and educational opportunities.

Enhancements at the mini parks include:

  • Removal of waste from the Park
  • Installing anti-littering signage, new waste receptacles, and physical features to deter future littering and dumping
  • Restoring 950 linear feet of creek channel including bank stabilization measures
  • Restoring the riparian corridor with native drought-tolerant vegetation
  • Installation additional lighting to improve safety
  • Installation ADA compliant trail surfacing and curb ramps
  • Adding exercise equipment, if space permits
