Construction continues
Alameda County - Caltrans is continuing construction on a major improvement project along Interstate 680 (I-680) between State Route 84 (SR-84) in Sunol and Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon. This work includes repaving the roadway and constructing new express lanes to improve safety, relieve congestion, and provide a smoother ride for motorists.
- The northbound I-680 work involves rehabilitating the existing roadway
- The southbound I-680 work includes both pavement rehabilitation and the addition of a new express lane
The project spans approximately 9 miles through Sunol, Pleasanton, Dublin, and San Ramon.
Ongoing Work Schedule:
Multiple active construction efforts are currently underway within this corridor, each with varying work schedules. To account for all potential activity:
- Nightly Lane closures may occur any night of the week, including weekends
- General closure window: 7:00 PM – 6:00 AM
This general timeframe allows for flexibility across all project operations. More detailed, location-specific traffic advisories will be issued as needed to inform the public about specific impacts and closures.
During these hours, the connector, ramps, and lanes may be closed to traffic. Motorists should follow posted detour signs and plan for extra travel time. Visit Caltrans QuickMap to check for real-time closures and traffic updates.
Estimated Construction Completion: Summer 2026
