ALAMEDA COUNTY – Caltrans will resume construction activities for the I-880 Capital Preventive Maintenance Project starting Tuesday, April 22, 2025. This project is improving pavement conditions and ride quality along 90 lane miles of I-880, stretching from Fremont Boulevard north to the Alameda County/Santa Clara County line. The project includes major upgrades such as asphalt replacement, ADA-compliant curb ramps, new pedestrian flashing beacons, guardrail improvements, loop detector replacements, and updates to traffic systems and signage.

Paving Suspension and Resumption
Work was temporarily suspended in November 2024 due to cold temperatures and rain that would have impacted paving quality. With improved weather conditions, Caltrans crews are now scheduled to resume paving operations on Tuesday April 22, 2025.

Closure Details

  • Overnight lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
  • At least one lane will remain open at all times during work hours.

  • The project limits on I-880 extend from Alvarado Boulevard/Fremont Boulevard (North) to the Alameda County/Santa Clara County line.
  • Paving between Dixon Landing Road and Mowry Avenue is complete in both northbound and southbound directions.
  • Beginning April 22, 2025, paving will continue from Mowry Avenue to Alvarado Boulevard in both northbound and southbound directions.
