The project to widen sidewalks, add curb ramps, pedestrian signals, and other upgrades begins August 19, 2024

Sonoma County—Caltrans will start construction Monday, August 19, 2024, on the $6.6 million project to improve pedestrian facilities along State Route 116 in Guerneville between Brookside Lane and Old River Road.

The project will widen sidewalks, construct curb ramps and traffic bulbs, install new crosswalks and pedestrian signals, and add new railings to the Fife Creek Bridge.

The wider sidewalks and curb ramps will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Sonoma County has funded additional upgrades, such as tree wells, bicycle racks, and murals, which will be part of the project.

While the project schedule allows nearly a year for construction, Caltrans hopes to complete the bulk of the work by year’s end to avoid cold, rainy winter weather that can interfere with pouring concrete.

Caltrans will begin work on the east and west ends of the project to avoid working in front of businesses during the summer months.
