PLEASANTON / ALAMEDA COUNTY – Caltrans reopened southbound Interstate 680 between the I-580/I-680 connector in Pleasanton and State Route 84 in Sunol ahead of schedule at 2:30 a.m. Monday, March 18.
The freeway opened an hour and a half ahead of schedule. During the closure, workers removed deteriorated pavement, replacing it with concrete for a smooth ride for motorists for decades to come.
Caltrans shrank 30 nights of nighttime closures into one weekend, sparing motorists three months of nighttime closures. The closure also advanced the work one year. Weekend closures also enhance safety for workers and motorists.
