Work Completed Approximately 12 Hours Ahead of Schedule

CONTRA COSTA and SOLANO COUNTIES- Caltrans has REOPENED all lanes of westbound Interstate-80 (I-80) between Interstate-780 (I-780) in Vallejo and State Route 4 (SR-4) in Hercules at approximately 4:45 PM on Monday September 4, 2023.

During the long Labor Day Weekend, Caltrans performed major pavement repair work on westbound I-80 between westbound I-80 and State Route 4 (SR-4) in Hercules.

That work included pouring more than nine thousand cubic yards of concrete on three miles of traffic lanes on westbound I-80.

Prior to this weekend’s Labor Day Holiday work on westbound I-80. Caltrans also completed pavement repair on eastbound I-80 during three separate weekends of work in August and September 2023.

Drivers returning to the Bay Area after the holiday will experience a safer and smoother drive on both westbound and eastbound I-80 between Contra Costa and Solano counties.

In addition to the major pavement repair on I-80 in Hercules, Caltrans was also able to work efficiently to complete other roadway and bridge repair work including repairing tower lighting on both the Zampa Bridge and the adjacent Carquinez Bridge on I-80.

Caltrans crews also completed paving work on the I-80/SR-29 Separation Bridge project on I-80 in Vallejo and Caltrans Maintenance crews performed landscape work which included trimming back brush and trees all along I-80.

Caltrans thanks motorists and bicyclists for their patience and understanding as we completed this major repair work on I-80 this holiday weekend.
