The project includes the stretch of State Route 87 between State Route 85 and the Julian Street undercrossing in San Jose.San Jose – Beginning July 2023, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin a State Route 87 (SR-87) Pavement Improvement project. The project will include intermittent daytime and overnight lane closures and intermittent ramp closures of SR-87 between Julian Street undercrossing and State Route 85 (SR-85), in the city of San Jose. The purpose of the project is to improve ride quality, enhance safety, and extend the service life of the pavement.

The project will preserve both mobility and safety. The roadway pavement will be replaced with 20-year life cycle flexible pavement structure by cold planning and replacing the pavement to maintain existing profile grade. The project will also include upgrades to 28 curb ramps at six intersections, resurface 2.9 miles of class I bikeway that run parallel to the mainline, replace median concrete barrier and guardrails, place enhanced wet/night visibility stripping and shoulder rumble strips. Project is scheduled to be complete Summer 2025.

Construction activities are scheduled to begin July 2023.
