U.S. Highway 50 Fiber Optics Project
Project Facts
Description
This project proposes to install a fiber optic line along U.S. Highway 50 in Sacramento and El Dorado counties from Sunrise Boulevard to Silva Valley Parkway, hook up all existing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) elements and signals to the fiber optic network running to the Regional Transportation Management Center (TMC) and to install a traffic camera at Carpenter Peak near the Sacramento-El Dorado County line.
Project Benefits
PURPOSE: The purpose of this project is to replace the existing copper communication lines with fiber optic cables. Fiber optic cables can carry more information and help improve network connections.
NEED: Improvements are needed as copper communication lines are prone to theft and have lower performance capabilities than modern fiber optic cables.
