Interstate 80 Truck Climbing Lane

Project Facts


Construct truck climbing lane and related improvements on eastbound I-80 near Colfax from Long Ravine Underpass to Alpine Overcrossing.
- Construction of a 3-mile truck climbing lane with standard 10 foot inside and outside shoulders
- Widening and replacement of Cape Horn Undercrossing
- Construction of an 1100 foot retaining wall separating Magra Road from I-80
- Extension of culverts and upgrade of drainage facilities
- Relocation of metal beam guard railing and construction of safety shaped barriers

Project Benefits

Trucks slow down on the steep grades reducing the capacity of this section of freeway. By constructing a 3-mile truck climbing lane and widening shoulders to current standards, the capacity and safety of the movement of people and goods on this section of the freeway on eastbound I-80 will be greatly improved.
