Donner Summit Rest Area Project

Project Facts

Description

Caltrans is proposing a highway maintenance project in Placer and Nevada Counties on the Route 80 mainline, from Troy Road Overcrossing to Donner Pass Road Overcrossing. The project is needed to reduce the severity of the truck rutting depths within the truck lanes to provide a safer roadway for motorists before the coming of Winter 2019.

Project Benefits

  • Improving pavement smoothness and surface damage on Route 80 by grinding and placing polyester concrete into both wheel paths of the number two (2) and number three (3) trucking lanes.
  • Prioritizing the two areas of the worst truck rutting in the project. Specifications are in place to ensure most (if not all) of priority locations 1 and 2 are completed before the beginning of construction winter suspension.
  • Major elements of this project include quick mobilization and production to meet the expectations and schedule of the priority construction areas, and incorporation of plastic traffic drums to provide safer traffic control for motorists and workers during construction.

Funding Breakdown

The total cost is estimated at $7,500,000
