Yolo County - Construction on Interstate 5 (I-5) will require two separate nightly full closures beginning Sunday, October 11, at 9 p.m. on northbound I-5 with signed detours. The County Road 22 detour is for local traffic.
Commercial trucking is urged to use State Route 113 (SR 113) to Interstate 80 (I-80). Expect delays and extended travel times.
Crews will remove and replace the pavement along I-5 at the Yolo Bypass north of the Sacramento River and Sacramento International Airport.
This construction work will require the bridge to be closed one direction at a time and is necessary for workers’ and motorists’ safety. Caltrans urges motorists to pay close attention to advance warnings and detour signs. The northbound I-5 closure should not delay the public from making scheduled departure flights from Sacramento International Airport (SMF).
Once the northbound work is complete, the contractor will shift operations to a southbound nightly I-5 closure. This closure is expected to affect motorists traveling from the Woodland area to the airport. Allow enough time to reach SMF for flight departures.
SCHEDULED NIGHTTIME CLOSURES:
- Northbound I-5 nightly closures from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., Oct. 11 through Oct. 31
- Southbound I-5 nightly closures from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., Nov. 1 through Nov. 20
The work zone speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph, and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. Work is scheduled as listed, but is subject to change due to weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, or other construction-related issues.
