PLACER COUNTY – Caltrans is alerting motorists about various lane and ramp closures along Interstate 80 (I-80) in Placer County as construction resumes on the $146.8 million Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Dutch Flat/Monte Vista and Drum Forebay.
Various lane and ramp closures are scheduled next week as crews shift lanes to make room for construction. Motorists may experience minor delays between 10 and 15 minutes.
Here is the breakdown for next week:
- Eastbound I-80 between Monte Vista and Drum Forebay, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 14 through Thursday, April 17. Work is also scheduled from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18.
- Westbound I-80 between Drum Forebay and Monte Vista, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 14 through Friday, April 18.
A long-term closure of the eastbound I-80 on and off-ramps at Baxter is also scheduled starting Monday, April 21 and will remain in place until further notice. Detour signs will be in place leading motorists traveling eastbound to the next exit at Drum Forebay, where they can turn around and head back to Baxter along westbound I-80. For motorists wishing to enter eastbound I-80 from Baxter, detours will lead them to take westbound I-80 and turn around at Crystal Springs.
Motorists are reminded the speed limit within the construction zone has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.
The extended lane closures will help to minimize the duration of the work and improve workers’ safety. For more information on this project visit Caltrans District 3 Current Projects. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.
DeSilva Gates Construction of Dublin is the prime contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed by summer 2028. The project will preserve the pavement by addressing areas in fair and poor condition and upgrade the median concrete barrier. The project will also rehabilitate existing drainage systems, install traffic management system elements and improve freight mobility by adding an eastbound truck climbing lane.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
The department will issue construction updates on X @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
