FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SACRAMENTO – Caltrans is advising motorists to expect ongoing nighttime and daytime roadwork along parts of Interstate 5 from south of Elk Grove to the U.S. Highway 50 interchange and to south of the American River.

A contractor is scheduled for construction work March 23, 25, 26 and 27 between 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. using equipment to bore, vacuum and install electrical line on I-5 at Seamas Avenue near the Land Park area.

Residents will hear loud construction sounds from the worksite, including commercial truck back-up beeping and heavy equipment noise with worksite lighting to improve visibility.

The work is part of a $370 million project to rehabilitate 67 lane miles of roadway and build 23 miles of carpool lanes, add additional sound walls and improve the existing electrical and drainage systems. Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, is providing $48.3 million in funding.

Motorists travelling through the work zone should expect ramp closures and lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles travelling in and out of the area. The workzone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.

More information on this project can be located here.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
