Sacramento County — Motorists can expect travel delays beginning Friday on the Interstate 80 to Interstate 5 connector in Sacramento for asphalt and electrical work.

A contractor will be closing the connector from eastbound I-80 to northbound I-5 and from northbound I-5 to I-80, around the clock starting 10 p.m. Friday, August 16 and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday, August 19.

Caltrans advises motorists to plan for these delays and allow additional travel time. The California Highway Patrol will be at the work sites for traffic enforcement. The following detours are recommended.

Detours:

  • From North 5 to 80 Connector, continue North 5 to Arena Boulevard off-ramp (Exit 524) to turn around on to SOUTH 5 to WB 80 or EB 80.
  • From East 80 to NB 5, take the SOUTH 5 connector to Richards Boulevard off-ramp (Exit 520) and turn around to get back onto North 5.

This project is to preserve and extend the life of existing pavement and improve ride quality. The work will include rehabilitating pavement at various connectors and ramps in Sacramento County, on I-80, from 0.2 miles west of W. El Camino O.C. to 0.2 miles east of 80/244 Separation. More information on this project can be located here.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
