Sacramento County — Motorists can expect travel delays beginning this weekend on Interstate 80 in north Sacramento for ramp and overcrossing construction work.

A contractor will be closing the on and off-ramps at northbound Northgate Boulevard to eastbound I-80 and the on and off-ramps from southbound Raley Boulevard to westbound I-80 around the clock starting at 10 p.m. Friday, July 19 and continuing through 6 a.m. Monday, July 22.

Caltrans advises motorists to plan for these delays and allow additional travel time. The California Highway Patrol will be at the work sites for traffic enforcement. Use the following detours.

DETOUR Northbound Northgate and Eastbound I-80:

  • From Northbound Northgate take the loop on-ramp to westbound I-80, then exit Truxel Rd. (EXIT 88) to turn around and return to Eastbound I-80.
  • From Eastbound I-80 motorists looking to exit onto Northgate use the next off-ramp at Norwood Avenue (EXIT 90) and turn around back onto Westbound I-80 for access to Northgate.

DETOUR Southbound Raley and Westbound I-80:

  • From Southbound Raley to westbound I-80 use the loop on-ramp to Eastbound I-80, take the off-ramp at Winters St. (EXIT 92) to turn around and return to Westbound I-80.
  • From Westbound I-80 motorists looking to exit onto Raley, take the next off-ramp at Norwood Ave. (EXIT 90) to turn around and return to Raley.

The work is part of a pavement rehabilitation project to repair and update the surfaces of nine overcrossings in North Sacramento. More information on this project can be located here.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
