State Route 139 Drapery Project
Caltrans District 2 is currently in the process of finalizing plans for a project on State Route 139 in Lassen County that will address an area with a history of frequent rockfall.
The Antelope Drapery project will take place approximately five miles north of the intersection with State Route 36, near Susanville. This area has required frequent visits from our maintenance crews in order to keep the roadway clear of rocks and debris from the hillside.
Work will include rock scaling and installation of a cable mesh drapery system on the hillside which will help prevent debris from falling onto the roadway in the future. During construction, motorists should anticipate one-way traffic control in the area with delays. The project is expected to begin in the Summer of 2021 and will take approximately 60 working days.
