Red Bluff Bridges Project on State Route 36

Red Bluff Bridges

The Project:

The Red Bluff Bridges project is in Tehama County along State Route (SR) 36, in Red Bluff at various locations from East Sand Slough Bridge to Paynes Creek Slough Bridge. This project will perform seismic retrofits on three bridges.

Project Benefits:

The purpose of the project is to prevent bridge failure and protect public safety in the event of a significant earthquake. The project is needed to preserve the structural integrity of the bridges.

Project Includes:

The proposed project includes installation of hinge seat extenders between abutting sections of the bridge deck. The extenders are represented by short rectangular metal pipes (installed approximately 6 feet apart) that are suspended just below the abutting bridge sections. The extenders will serve to support the bridge deck in the event of a bridge failure. The proposed work will be performed above and below the bridge deck simultaneously. Work may also include the installation of broadband fiber optic cable.

Current Project Schedule:

It is estimated this project will take 101 workings days, with 36 days requiring traffic control. Construction is scheduled to start in 2025.

Project Funding Estimates:

Project Cost: $3.2M
