Portuguese Creek and Cade Creek Project on State Route 96

Portuguese Creek and Cade Creek

The Project:

This project proposes to replace culverts at Portuguese and Cade creeks on State Route 96 near Happy Camp in Siskiyou County with bridges.

Project Benefits:

The Portuguese and Cade Creek Culverts were built in the 1940s and the culvert structures have corroded. The proposed project will provide structurally sound structures that meet the

current highway standards and fish passage criteria as mandated by State and Federal law. In addition to the structure deterioration, the culverts have been identified as a significant passage barrier for miles of potential fish habitat for anadromous fish species.

Project Includes:

Work includes restoring fish passages by replacing existing aging culverts with bridge structures and the adjacent roadway sections as required.

Current Project Schedule:

There are 240 working days allotted  for his project, 120 for each location. All working days will require one-way traffic control via an automated signal. Construction is scheduled to occur sometime between Summer 2023 and Fall 2024.
