Pit River Seismic Project on State Route 299 in Lassen County
The Project:
The Pit Rivers Seismic project is in Lassen County at and near Bieber at Pit River Overflow Bridge #07-0005 and at Pit River Bridge #07-0007 along SR (State Route) 299.
Project Benefits:
The project will include seismic strengthening to preserve the
structural integrity of the bridges and avoid collapsing in the event of an
earthquake.
Project Includes:
This project includes adding concrete T-beam seat extenders, hinge slab bridge seat extenders for the in-span hinges, replacing longitudinal joint seals and transverse expansion joint seals, and upgrading the approach and departure railing. For the Pit River Overflow Bridge, original columns (constructed in 1925) are to have unsound concrete removed and to be retrofitted with carbon fiber reinforced polymer wrap. For the Pit River Bridge, at piers 3 through 6, unsound concrete will be removed, and new concrete will be placed. At pier 2, the existing partial debris wall and H-piles will be removed, new H-piles will be driven, and a new debris wall will be constructed.
Current Project Schedule:
It is estimated this project will take 185 workings days, with all days requiring traffic control. Construction is scheduled to start in late summer 2025.
Project Funding Estimates:
Project Cost: $4.2M
