District Wide Bridge Repair Project Underway in Shasta, Tehama, and Lassen Counties
The District Wide Scour Countermeasures project in Lassen, Shasta, and Tehama Counties will provide scour countermeasures to bridge piers, bridge footings, bridge abutments, and stream banks at eight locations.
According to the USGS, flood events on rivers can cause erosion of the soil around a bridge foundation and this process is often referred to as bridge scour. This project will help repair those bridges that have scour, or wear, from water flow.
These projects will take place on State Routes 299, 44, 32, 36, and Interstate 5 at various locations.
Traffic impacts during construction are expected to be minimal. Delays are expected to be approximately 5 minutes, Monday through Friday, depending on the location. Speed limit reductions will also be in place.
All work will take place off the paved surface and intermittent flagging, lane closures, and shoulder closures may occur while equipment is transported to and from projects.
There is an estimated 70 working days for this project. Construction is scheduled to occur between June 2021 and September 2021.
