Cottonwood Creek Bridge Joint Seal Work on Interstate 5 at Shasta/Tehama County Line

Seize The Delay 2026Beginning after Memorial Day weekend, major bridge joint seal work will take place on Interstate 5 at Cottonwood Creek Bridge, near the Shasta/Tehama county line. 

Drivers should plan for long-term lane closures, heavy traffic backups, extended daytime delays on Saturdays, and no alternate highway routes available in the area. 

Work will take place each weekend from Friday at 10 p.m. through Sunday at 6 a.m. 

  • May 29 at 10 p.m. through May 31 at 6 a.m. The northbound #2 lane will be closed. 
  • June 5 at 10 p.m. through June 7 at 6 a.m. The northbound #1 lane will be closed. 
  • June 12 at 10 p.m. through June 14 at 6 a.m. The southbound #2 lane will be closed. 
  • June 19 at 10 p.m. through June 21 at 6 a.m. The southbound #1 lane will be closed. 
  • June 26 at 10 p.m. through June 28 at 6 a.m. Contingency weekend for unfinished work. More information will be released prior to this weekend if work is required to take place. 

Intermittent ramp closure will also take place during this work. The southbound Gas Point Road on-ramp and the northbound Bowman on-ramp will be impacted. 

If possible, avoid traveling through the area during daytime hours on Saturdays. Motorists are encouraged to travel overnight when traffic volumes are lighter.
