Clean California Safety Fence Project

Clean CA Logo

The Project:

To reduce foot traffic in state areas near high-speed roadways, Caltrans will install safety fences in Redding and Red Bluff, two historically underserved cities in Northern California.

Project Benefits:

This project will benefit local communities by reducing vandalism on state property. The project will also reduce unlawful access to the highway, which poses potential safety issues to both pedestrians and drivers.

Project Includes:

Install safety fences at 4 locations to discourage littering, trespassing, and graffiti. Install powder-coated wrought iron fencing adjacent to the highway at 4 locations: adjacent to Highway 44 near Redding (Shasta-44-PM R0.7/R1.2), adjacent to Sacramento River Bridge on Route 273 in Shasta County (Shasta-273-PM 17.08, Bridge No. 06 00140), and adjacent to Paynes Creek Slough (Tehama-36-PM 42.5/42.6, Bridge No. 08 0088) bridges. Install chain link and wire mesh fencing adjacent to the Sacramento River bridges (Tehama-5-PM R26.9/R27.1, Bridge No.’s 08 0096L and 08 0096R).

Current Project Schedule:

There are an estimated 60 working days for this project, all which will not require traffic control. Construction is currently scheduled for 2023.

Project Funding Estimates:

Total project cost (including support) is $1.08 million. This project is made possible by the Clean California Program.
