Transitional Job Programs

Caltrans partners with transitional job programs to provide thousands of Californians, regardless of skills, background or work history, paths to gainful employment and a fresh start. Disadvantaged and underserved adults—including those who have encountered barriers to finding employment, experienced homelessness or re-entered society after incarceration—learn life and job skills and receive temporary paid employment, job placement assistance and social services in counties throughout California.

Participants receive support services that are free, confidential and available to all:

  • One-on-one employment counseling
  • Job-readiness classes
  • Resume preparation & practice interviews
  • Computer lab and phone access
  • Work wardrobe and hygiene products
  • Transportation assistance

Work crews support the Caltrans' Clean California program by collecting and disposing of litter and debris along the state highway system. Through transitional jobs, participants may have a pathway to gain permanent positions at Caltrans.
