SAN DIEGO — Construction crews are working around the clock to remove and replace five damaged culverts on State Route 78 between College Boulevard and El Camino Real. The westbound lanes will remain closed this weekend and into early next week. During this week’s storms, crews preformed preventative work to shore up the location to protect it from the wet weather. Unfortunately, the rains did cause a delay.

Repaving and lane striping work on the westbound lanes is scheduled for next week. However, the pavement must remain dry to complete these activities and rain is expected mid-week. Once the westbound lanes reopen, crews will close the eastbound lanes to complete the other side of the culvert repair.

Portable Changeable Messages Signs are placed along northbound and southbound Interstate 15 and along westbound SR-78 to alert motorists of this work.

Motorists will detour to the College Boulevard/Vista Way off-ramp, then west on Vista Way to the westbound SR-78 El Camino Real on-ramp.

Caltrans will update this construction schedule as new information becomes available.
