SAN DIEGO — Construction crews will close the eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8) Severin Drive/Fuerte Drive and El Cajon Boulevard off-ramps as well as the Severin Drive/Fuerte Drive and La Mesa Boulevard/Grossmont Center Drive on-ramps on Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The closure is part of the six-mile bridge rehabilitation and concrete slab project on eastbound and westbound I-8 between La Mesa and El Cajon scheduled for completion in summer 2023.
Work started in early November when crews narrowed the eastbound I-8 lanes from 12 feet to 10 ½ feet and shifted traffic slightly to the right. During this Saturday closure, the two right lanes will close but the two left lanes will remain open. Crews have placed electronic portable changeable message sighs on eastbound I-8 to inform motorists of this work.
