Northbound I-5 Hawthorn Street/San Diego Airport Off-Ramp Closed Tuesday, 7/5

SAN DIEGO — Caltrans crews will close the northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) off-ramp to Hawthorn Street on Tuesday, July 5, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., in order for crews to complete road striping and final repairs following a water main break last fall.

The southbound State Route 163 (SR-163) connector to the northbound I-5 will also be closed.

Detours are as follows:

  • Northbound I-5 off-ramp to Hawthorn Street (for Airport Travelers): Northbound I-5 motorists may exit at India Street and continue to West Washington Street, turn left onto West Washington Street, left at Pacific Highway, turn right onto West Laurel Street which merges onto North Harbor Drive to San Diego International Airport.

  • Southbound SR-163 connector to northbound I-5: take southbound I-5 to the Imperial Avenue exit, turn left onto Imperial Avenue and left at 19th Street to northbound I-5.
  • Northbound SR-163 connector to northbound I-5: continue northbound on SR-163 to westbound Interstate 8 to northbound I-5.

Travelers are reminded to watch for highway workers and moving equipment and to Be Work Zone Alert.

The construction schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents or other construction considerations.
