SAN DIEGO — Crews have postponed closing the Interstate 8 (I-8) Buckman Springs Safety Roadside Rest Area (SRRA) near Pine Valley in eastern San Diego County until after April 6, according to Caltrans. Scheduling details will be provided as they become available.

The year-long closure is necessary for work on the Buckman Springs (SRRA) Sewer/Water Systems Restoration Project that will bring the rest area in compliance with state and federal water quality standards.

Caltrans thanks motorists in advance for their patience as crews move forward with the upgrades to improve groundwater quality and efficiency of the water system.

The 3.4 million project is funded by the State Highway Operation and Protection Program and is expected to be completed late spring 2021.
