SAN DIEGO — Crews will reduce a quarter-mile section of State Route 94 (SR-94) to one lane just east of Freezer Road in Dulzura weekdays, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, according to Caltrans. The lane reduction is needed for work along the north side of the highway as part of the SR-94 Curve Realignment Project.

Flaggers will be present during the lane closure to signal drivers when to safely proceed through the single lane. Motorists are encouraged to plan for slower traffic flow and possible travel delays.

Signs will be posted ahead of the lane-reduction points to alert drivers to slow down and prepare to stop ahead. Both lanes will reopen to regular traffic after the work shift.

The lane closures and one-way traffic control are expected to extend to a 24/7 schedule by mid-April as work proceeds.

Upcoming construction activities includes placing concrete barriers along the north side of the highway to protect motorists and workers during grading and earthmoving operations. The SR-94 Curve Realignment Project will realign the roadway to improve the existing curve and widen the shoulders of SR-94 for a quarter mile-section just west of Freezer Road in Dulzura. The project will include relocating utility poles and lines and will take about a year to complete.

Caltrans thanks travelers for their patience during the construction activities and reminds drivers to ‘Be Work Zone Alert’ by avoiding distracted driving, paying constant attention to traffic, and slowing down when approaching work zones.
