Two-week closure on State Route 111

Project Update

Decorative image - Map depicting the detour for the SR-111 Niland Geyser Mitigation ProjectGreetings!

Caltrans is on schedule to fully close State Route 111 at Davis and Gillespie roads Friday, September 27 at 5 p.m. The closure could extend for two weeks as crews install drainage beneath the highway.

As a reminder, there will be no through traffic at the closure points and motorists will be detoured north and south of the closure to the west side of the Salton Sea along State Route 86. Please plan for additional travel time of more than hour.

Davis and Gillespie roads will remain accessible to drivers, although both roads are subject to lane closures and one-way traffic control that can create delays.

Caltrans is sensitive to the traffic impacts to the community and the region created by the extended highway closure. Thank you again for your patience during the roadwork. Photos and videos of construction and the mud pot are available at the project webpage.
