No Traffic Controls & Pass Updates
Alpine County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will not conduct traffic controls in Alpine County next week.
State Routes 4 & 89
- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) officially re-opened State Route 89 (Monitor Pass) for the season at the State Route 4/89 Junction, as of 12:00 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2026. Caltrans maintenance crews made significant progress with their snow removal operations along Monitor Pass and have deemed it safe for reopening to the public. Monitor Pass will still be subject to intermittent closures resulting from weather and subsequent road conditions.
- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) issued the official winter seasonal closure of State Route 4 (Ebbetts Pass) on Friday, December 26, 2025. Caltrans will start seasonal pass clearing operations on SR-4 next week beginning Monday, March 23, 2026. The highway will not be reopened until road conditions are warranted later this Spring. Each year, Caltrans maintenance crews work diligently to clear debris, remove snow, and make repairs so the highway can reopen safely to motorists.
