Caltrans To Present I-5 Stockton Channel Viaduct Project Update To Stockton City Council Committee On November 19, 2025
Stockton – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will make its next update presentation for the Interstate 5 Stockton Channel Viaduct Project to the Stockton City Council on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 3:30 p.m.
Caltrans will specifically address the City Council’s Community Improvement and Crime Prevention Committee.
Topics to be covered will include the current status of the project, progress and accomplishments to date, updated timeline for start of construction, plans for traffic mitigation at Interstate 5/Pershing Avenue, and the right-of-way acquisition process/schedule.
Of specific interest will be construction stages and their durations/impacts. Caltrans’ project managers and subject matter experts will be available to address questions from those in attendance.
The Stockton Channel Viaduct Project proposes to replace the northbound and southbound Stockton Channel Viaduct Bridges on Interstate 5 to ensure the long-term serviceability, structural integrity and improve the permit load rating for commercial vehicles and the movement of goods.
The project is needed because of structural deficiencies and continued bridge repairs. The bridges show concrete and steel superstructure/foundation deficiencies, including a long-standing issue of concrete deck deterioration resulting in ongoing maintenance challenges.
