Overnight & Extended One-Way Traffic Control Will Be Required
San Joaquin County – Caltrans will soon begin the State Route 4 (SR-4) Farmington Highway Improvement Project that will make necessary upgrades and repairs of approximately 25 miles of existing highway from State Route 99 in Stockton to Duncan Road in Telegraph City (Stanislaus County.)

The purpose of this project is to address pavement, bridge, drainage and warning sign needs on SR-4. Pavement work will include the removal of localized areas of pavement failure and replacement with Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt overlay.
In addition to pavement repairs, work will include:
- • Replacing existing bridge railings at seven bridge locations with railings that meet current standards,
- • Rehabilitating 21 culverts to avoid possible flooding or settlement of the roadway,
- • Upgrading rumble strips, traffic stripes and warning signs to current standards,
- • Upgrading existing guardrails to Midwest Guardrail System,
Required Highway Closures During Construction:
- • Overnight, one-way traffic control to be performed on eastbound and westbound SR-4 at various locations, Sundays-Fridays (7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.)
- • Extended, 48-hour and/or 55-hour one-way traffic control lane closures will also occur with no detour required. Dates of these weekend closures will be announced once finalized.
Caltrans will utilize flaggers, roadside and portable changeable message signs alerting motorists of the lane closure and potential delays, which are expected to be approximately 15 minutes.
