Claus Road Intersection Control Improvement Project
Project Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to reduce the number and severity of broadside collisions at the intersection of State Route 108 and Claus Road in the City of Riverbank in Stanislaus County by making intersection control improvements. The project would add traffic signals to the T-intersection of State Route 108 and Claus Road and widen the roadway to accommodate dedicated turn lanes at the intersection. The project would also install retaining walls on the south side of State Route 108, install drainage improvements, and replace the existing metal beam guardrail on the south side of State Route 108 with standard guardrail.
Project Benefits
Purpose
The purpose of the project is to regulate the Claus Road and State Route 108 intersection by improving intersection control, which would reduce the number and severity of broadside collisions at the intersection.
Need
The project is needed because there is a pattern of broadside collisions identified at the intersection due to the failure to yield by motorists.
Funding Source
This project was amended into the 2020 State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) with funding from the Safety Improvements Program for delivery in the 2023/2024 fiscal year (FY).
