Middle River Bridge Roadway Realignment

Project Description

This project is located west of the City of Stockton in San Joaquin County at the Middle River Bridge on State Route (SR) 4. The project proposes to realign the approach curve and widen shoulders on the east end of the Middle River Bridge; upgrade safety devices such as the metal beam guardrail to Midwest Guardrail System; relocate and install additional street lighting; and install flashing beacons. 

 

Project Benefits

Purpose

The purpose of this project is to reduce the number and severity of collisions occurring at the east end approach to the Middle River Bridge by realigning the approach curve.

Need

The need is to realign the existing tight approach curve with a wider curve radius to provide better decision sight distance for trucks and buses before entering the narrow bridge.

 

Funding Source

The project is programmed in the 2018 State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) under the Collision Reduction Program in fiscal year 2019/20.

Construction began in May of 2022 and expected to be completed by summer of 2023.
