Tuolumne & Calaveras Counties Drainage System Rehabilitation Project

Project Description

Existing cross drainage culverts under, State Routes (SR) 26, 108, and 120 primarily convey flow of surface water and stream flow across or from the highway right of way. These drainage systems also provide protection against flooding. The Maintenance Engineering Culvert Inspection Team reported that at least 40 culverts identified in this project have exceeded their design life and have deteriorated, corroded, and damaged inverts, as well as shape loss and joint separations. Therefore, if these culverts aren’t rehabilitated or replaced, undermining will occur and compromise the roadway.

Project Benefits

Purpose and Need

The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate old failing culverts. If not rehabilitated, the roadway will eventually settle due to erosion of the soil below the pavement.
