Middletown Safety South Project
Caltrans proposes to construct safety improvements on State Route 29 (SR29) in Middletown, Lake County from post miles 5.0 to 5.9. Work would include shoulder widening, left-turn channelization, a two-way left turn lane (TWLTL), new/modified curb ramps, bulbouts, new sidewalks, lighting and pedestrian activated rapid rectangular flashing beacons (RRFBs).
The purpose of the project is to improve safety for multimodal users and reduce the frequency and severity of collisions along this segment of Route 29. Shoulder widening will occur south of Middletown, primarily along the northeast side of the highway, to minimize environmental impacts to St Helena Creek. A left-turn channelization lane will be constructed at the intersection of Route 29 and Lake Street (PM 5.37). In Middletown, between Callayomi and Young St., new sidewalks, bulbouts, lighting, RRFBs, two 5-foot bike lanes and a TWLTL will be installed.
