Carlotta Curve Improvement

Caltrans proposes to improve roadway curves and widen shoulders on State Route 36 from postmiles 10.5 to 10.8 in Humboldt County near Pamplin Grove County Park along the north bank of the Van Duzen River. The purpose of this project is to reduce collisions. This project is needed because the collision rate at this location is 3.59 times the statewide average for similar highway facilities.  Work would also include a retaining wall, replacement of two culverts, and guardrail upgrades. The project would not need additional right-of-way, though a temporary construction easement from a nearby parcel may be requested.

Construction is not estimated to begin until spring of 2023.
