Rhonda Craft was appointed Inspector General of the Independent Office of Audits and Investigations in 2019.  As Inspector General, Ms. Craft is vested with the authority to maintain a full-scope, independent, and objective audit and investigation program. The Inspector General has a duty to review policies, practices, and procedures and conduct audits and investigations of activities involving state transportation funds administered by Caltrans.

Ms. Craft was previously the Director of the Office of Traffic Safety and the Governor’s Representative for Highway Safety.  As Director, she was responsible for administering the California Traffic Safety Program, which includes planning for programs to reduce the number of victims killed and injured in traffic crashes throughout the state.  Craft oversaw the day-to-day operations and was responsible for the administration, distribution, and management of over $90 million in traffic safety grants annually.

Ms. Craft comes to IOAI with over 30 years of state service implementing policy and legislative initiatives to improve overall traffic safety and reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on California’s roadways.  Ms. Craft helped establish California’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan and serves on the Board of Directors for Safety Center Incorporated.  Ms. Craft has worked with numerous organizations committed to improving street and highway safety, including the Governors Highway Safety Association, American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Federal Highway Administration, and numerous private and public sector organizations committed to highway safety.
