Type 732s Bridge Rail

The Type 732s bridge rail is a steel version of the widely used Type 732 reinforced concrete bridge rail. It was initially designed for use on the new span of the San Francisco / Oakland Bay Bridge. A representation of the 732s bridge rail was fabricated, installed, and tested at the Caltrans Dynamic Test Facility in West Sacramento, California. The 732s was tested in accordance with NCHRP Report 350, Test Level 4, for longitudinal barriers to determine if it would contain 2000-8000 kg vehicles effectively in 80-100km/h impacts at angles of 15 and 25 degrees without pocketing or snagging.
