Director's Office of Equity, Sustainability & Tribal Affairs
As part of Caltrans' commitment to deliver on its Equity Statement, the Director's Office of Sustainability and Caltrans' Office of Race and Equity (CORE) have combined forces to form the new Director's Office of Equity, Sustainability & Tribal Affairs (ESTA). This merger represents the Department's commitment to advancing holistic, integrated, and restorative policies to planning, building, and advocating for a more just transportation system. We work across the Department to align sustainability and equity initiatives, targets, and activities between the Director's Office, Headquarters Divisions, the 12 Caltrans Districts, Tribal Governments, and external partners as outlined in the Department's 2020-2024 Strategic Plan.
While this office supports a variety of sustainability and equity-related work across the Department, our branches specifically lead the following key initiatives:
Accelerate the transition to a healthy, dignified, and just transportation system that supports thriving communities.
|Leadership||We commit to providing bold leadership and cultivating innovative and accountable leaders to achieve a transportation system where the social, economic, and environmental benefits and burdens are shared equitably.|
|Social Justice||We uplift, center, and prioritize the communities most harmed and burdened by racial and other systemic inequities for investments that redress past, stop current, and prevent future harms, and provide new opportunities for those communities to prosper.
|Trust||We hold trust as foundational in developing authentic and personal relationships with our colleagues, collaborators, external partners, and community members.
|Resolve||We work with steadfast determination to institute bold, restorative change for current and future generations of Californians.|
