SACRAMENTO — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) kicked off the public comment period today for its draft plan for highway and rail improvements to more safely, efficiently and sustainably move people and goods between different regions in the state.
The newly released draft 2021 Interregional Transportation Strategic Plan (ITSP) proposes the policy framework, goals and strategies that will guide Caltrans and partner agencies on developing and prioritizing transportation projects connecting California’s distinct regions.
“Californians deserve a world-class transportation system that is safe, sustainable, equitable and interconnected while fitting the unique needs of all areas in our state. We are requesting your input to help make that vision a reality.”
Updated every five years, the draft 2021 ITSP focuses on enhancements to key highway and rail corridors throughout the state to expand mobility options, improve safety and accessibility, ensure the efficient movement of goods, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and fortify transportation infrastructure to be more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
The public can comment on the draft plan through September 10 by emailing ITSP@dot.ca.gov.
Caltrans will hold three 2021 ITSP virtual workshops to provide more opportunities for feedback:
- August 12, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. (Register)
- August 24, 10-11 a.m. (Register)
- August 26, 10-11 a.m. (Register)
Caltrans expects to post the adopted 2021 ITSP, along with responses to public comments in early October.
