SAN FRANCISCO  — A summer 2020 project aimed at replacing a decades old bridge deck on U.S. 101 near Alemany Circle was fast tracked after San Francisco traffic was reduced by 60-percent because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this Caltrans News Flash, we show you how innovation, teamwork, and coordination during a pandemic made this project a success. By working around the clock, Caltrans was able to complete an 18-day project in only 9 days.

Accelerating this project helped motorists avoid massive summer-time traffic and provided nearby residents with fewer construction days and reduced impacts on their neighborhood.
