REDDING — Caltrans District 2 announces that the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians in Tehama County is one of the statewide recipients of the first Adaptation Planning Grants funded through the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB-1). The $106,690 grant will be applied to a project known as the "Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians Climate Vulnerability Assessment" with a total cost of $118.378.
"This funding support will ultimately help the Tribe find sound solutions to future transportation challenges within their communities in the context of climate change."
The Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians is a federally recognized Tribe seeing to develop a Tribal Climate Vulnerability Assessment that guides Tribal Leaders and decision makers in a sound foundation for future climate change adaptation planning.
During last week's California Transportation Commission (CTC) meeting, nearly $32 million in grants were awarded. In total, SB 1 will provide more than $270 million in planning grants for local communities over the next decade. These grants will support their efforts to plan more sustainable communities, reduce transportation-related greenhouse gases and adapt for the effects of climate change.
A total of $7 million in Adaptation Planning Grants were awarded to 21 projects throughout California. These grants will help local and regional agencies conduct adaptation planning in a way to ensure transportation assets are resilient in the face of climate change and extreme weather events. SB 1 will provide a total of $20 million over three years for this grant program.
Caltrans received 30 applications seeking $10.5 million in grants funds for the Adaptation Planning grant program.
